At her private practice in the College Park, Maryland / Washington D.C. area, Kathy uses both the "Five Element" and "Eight Principle" traditions of acupuncture. She believes the body has the innate ability to naturally heal, and that symptoms are a gift, a message to inform oneself, of an imbalance in the body that requires attention. At A Greater Well Being, these messages are evaluated and explored to uncover the potential imbalances, assist the body in restoring balance, and ultimately alleviating discomfort. Wellness is achieved by addressing the physical, emotional and spiritual well being. All three aspects, in balance, are needed to realize the full vitality of life. The 5000 year-old tradition of Chinese Medicine is currently used in nearly 40% of the world’s population and continually expanding.
BACKGROUND / EDUCATION
Kathy Gonzalez graduated with honors from Washington Adventist University, earning a BS in Health Care Administration and completed her graduate work earning an MS in Acupuncture from the Maryland University of Integrative Health in Burtonsville Maryland. Kathy is a specialist in Chinese Medicine designated and licensed by the State of Maryland Acupuncture Board.
After completing her undergraduate work, Kathy has spent many years in the health care environment. Seeking a broader perspective than the limitations of the prescription pad and scalpel of western medicine, Kathy embarked on a journey in which she could use her gifts to influence others on a natural path to wellness. Believing her life’s work, and making a difference, went hand in hand, she applied her Masters of Acupuncture degree to empowering others, in partnership, to uncover their own potential for A Greater Well Being.
Kathy is licensed in the State of Maryland and is a member of Maryland Acupuncture Society (MAS) and American Association of Acupuncture (AAAOM) and Oriental Medicine. Kathy takes a multidisciplinary approach to the treatment of pain offering a variety of treatment including Acupuncture, Gua Sha, Moxibustion, Cupping, Battlefield Acupuncture and the NADA Auricular Therapy protocol to relieve pain.
SPECIALTY
Kathy also strongly believes in integrative medicine and works closely with a select group of Physicians, Chiropractors, Physical Therapists, Massage Therapists and other specialists to comprehensively treat and eliminate pain and dysfunction after injury and or neglect. Kathy also regularly completes the State of Maryland 40+ hours of continuing education requirement every two years to maintain her Maryland Acupuncture License. Kathy considers herself a forever student so this requirement is easily met and she has recently become a certified practitioner in Acupuncture Facial Rejuvenation™ and the Tobacufree Smoking Cessation™ Programs.
Kathy practices both Five Element and Eight Principle Acupuncture and uses both traditions as a comprehensive health care system that strives to balance the body, mind and spirit. In the last few years, she has discovered that she has a passion for treating those who are not living life to the fullest as a result of pain or discomfort. Her goal is to help patients regain the wellness they once enjoyed and return to the sports and activities they love. Certified in Battlefield Acupuncture and Auricular Acupuncture Therapies, Kathy often sees steady improvement in the treatment of pain management in patients who regularly receive treatment. In addition to pain management, Kathy also effectively treats those suffering with fatigue, depression, migraines, allergies and chronic sinus conditions.
